Gangkou District is located at the junction of the mainland coastline and the border line, surrounded by the sea on three sides. The land area is 409 square kilometers, the sea area is 2488 square kilometers. It is the core of politics, economy, finance and culture of Fangchenggang City. It is along the sea and border, located in China-ASEAN Free Trade Zone and core area of Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone. It is three key positioning nodes of “ international big route, strategic fulcrum, and important gateway”. It is the junction of the three big economic circles of South China, Southwest China and ASEAN. Front has the ASEAN's 600 million population market, back has the economic hinterland of 600 million people in central and southern China. Population, logistics and capital flow are intensive here, and the location and development conditions here are unique.

Gangkou District is the most convenient two-way big route, main gateway and bridgehead of the hinterland of China to import and export ASEAN. It has the largest port in the West—Fangcheng Port, is one of the 12 most important hub ports in China, there are 33 deep water berths from 10000 tons to 200000 tons, it has the trade and navigation relations with more than 220 ports of more than 80 countries and regions, designed annual throughput over 1 billion tons. It is the nearest place to the Malacca Strait in mainland China, big port with the lowest logistics cost, it has become a three-dimensional transport modern transportation network and information logistics center that combines railway, road, waterway and airline together.

Gangkou District port industry develops rapidly, has become six industrial clusters of iron, nonferrous metals, oil and foodstuffs, energy sources, petrochemical industry and equipment manufacturing. The marine fishery is developed here, it owns the second largest fishing port in Guangxi—Qisha port, there are more than 500 kinds of fish, the sea area suitable for aquaculture covers more than 2 million mu, high quality seafood are sold well within and outside China.
