一万多年前，蒲县就有人类繁衍生息的足迹，薛关龙王庙细石器时代遗址，为这片土地留下最早的“文化烙印”；五千年前，尧师蒲伊子曾隐居于此，讲道荐贤，蒲县县名由此而来；春秋时期，晋文公重耳受封此地。近代以来，蒲县走出了著名书法家、经济学家段云，“山药蛋派”代表人物、《吕梁英雄传》作者之一的西戎等杰出人物。文脉千年，薪火传承，蒲县扶贫戏剧《春暖蒲子山》全国展演，“蒲县朝山会”入选国家级非物质文化遗产名录。一段段历史、一代代人物、一张张名片丰盈了蒲县形象，积淀了蒲县内涵。
蒲县物华天宝，山川秀美。勤劳智慧的蒲县人民一直致力于绿水青山的建设，县域森林覆盖率达40%以上，林木覆盖率近60%。国家级自然保护区五鹿山林海苍茫、物种繁多，堪称“天然氧吧”；梅洞山、翠屏山、峡村峡谷，群山环绕、四季皆景，发展康养产业得天独厚。全国重点文物保护单位东岳庙，历经千年风雨，留存了众多文物古迹，唐朝的楸树、元代的戏台、明代的泥塑，都是历史的述说、文化的积淀。远近闻名的蒲县美食独具特色，粗粮细做、细粮精做，莜面栲栳栳、钢丝面、裹皮斜斜（xia）、抿尖儿等美味，足以触动您的味蕾，向世人展示着蒲县舌尖上的“蒸情食意”。
